Company Applies Statistical Methods to Predict Programmer Job Performance; Accuracy Verified in Peer Reviewed Scientific Publications

"The hiring process is no longer hit and miss" says Dr Peter Blain, CoderCred's cofounder and CIO. "It is now possible to measure a candidate's performance relative to industry averages with high accuracy, and with almost zero effort."

CoderCred, which provides services to the software development community, offers anyone intending to hire a programmer the ability to create a custom programming assessment. Challenges comprising the assessment can be picked from a predefined library and are available in most popular programming languages. Candidates complete the challenges online, writing real code, which is automatically assessed for characteristics such as correctness, speed, difficulty and code elegance.

Dr Paul Bracewell, the company's Chief Analytics Officer, and whose previous research is in sports statistics, presented CoderCred's most recent results at the Australasian Conference on Mathematics and Computers in Sport. Dr Bracewell says "the performance on wellconstructed, relevant tests is a strong predictor of future performance. This can be used to help identify candidates that have the greatest chance of success, allowing a programmer's actions to speak louder than their words."

The company is marketing its product to hirers and managers, but it is the coders themselves who may benefit most from the objective assessments.
