Community Unites in Fort Harrison for 2nd Annual Community Garden Fundraiser
The Clearwater Community Gardens utilized the Fort Harrison's Crystal Ballroom for its 2nd annual fundraising brunch, bringing over 100 people to contribute to this non-profit organization.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2016 - On August 21, 2016, The Clearwater Community Gardens held its 2nd Annual fundraising brunch in the Fort Harrison Crystal Ballroom with over 100 guests in attendance. The event was organized by Howard Warshauer, Chairman of the Clearwater Community Garden Committee. Guests included Clearwater City Officials, Clearwater Police and members from the Clearwater Garden Club and the neighboring Dunedin Garden Club.
The event kicked off with Mr. Warshauer explaining the history of the Clearwater Community Gardens and the success of its first year. He thanked all members of the Garden as well as the key sponsors and contributors including LOWES, Natures Food Patch, the Church of Scientology and MOSS.
Mr. Warshauer talked about the importance of bringing communities together. "Simply stated we are trying to accomplish two tasks here in Clearwater - growing food and growing our community," he said.
Guest speakers included Ms. Pat Harney, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater, followed by Seth Taylor, Executive Director of the Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency.
Ms. Harney gave an overview of recent community work that the Church of Scientology has been doing in the Greenwood and East Gateway communities. This includes a community cleanup in the East Gateway neighborhood with members of the Clearwater Community Gardens, the Clearwater Police Department and The Way to Happiness Foundation.
Mr. Taylor, Director of the Clearwater Community Re-development Agency, informed the guests of the future plans for East Gateway re-development. He gave several examples of how different communities he has worked with in New York utilized what they had to create places that people want to go to.
"And to quote Jane Jacobs 'Designing a dream city is easy; rebuilding a living one takes imagination,'" said Mr. Taylor.
The event concluded with a Garden Quiz, Natures Food Patch gift cards and a raffle. Prizes included paintings, garden accessories as well as gift cards from Downtown Clearwater's Grindhouse Coffee & Café, Chiang Mai, One Stoppe Shoppe and more.
