Community invited to attend seminars on Medication Safety

  • (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2009 - Dr. Frederic Lapitinsky, Director of Pharmacy at Down East Community Hospital will be presenting several medication safety seminars throughout Washington County over the next several months. Entitled “My Medication/My Safety” Brown Bag Seminars, these seminars will provide information on side effects, drug interactions, the importance of keeping an accurate and up-to-date list of all medications, and tips on how to organize medications.

    All attendees are encouraged to bring all of their medications in a “brown bag”. Dr. Lapitinsky will review each attendees medications to look for possible drug interactions and make other recommendations.

    “Our goal with these seminars is to educate the community in order to help people avoid problems with their medication. For instance, many chronic diseases like high blood pressure and heart failure can be exaserbated by medication reactions," states Lapitinsky.

    The schedule of “My Medication, My Safety” Brown Bag Seminars is as follows:
    June 25 2:00 pm at Sunrise Care Facility, Jonesport
    July 9 12:00 pm at Lubec Medical Center, Lubec
    August 20, 12:00 pm: Women’s Health Resource Library, Milbridge
    September 10 at 12:00pm , Down East Community Hospital, Machias
    October 8 at 12:00pm, Down East Community Hospital, Machias
