  • (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2016 - Elizabeth, NJ -Community Access Unlimited (CAU), was named an honoree by the New Jersey League of Municipalities (NJLM) and NJBIZ for their work with multiple state and federal municipalities. CAU was given recognition for its Fanwood project which united two boroughs and remediated two unsightly properties for the benefit of an underserved population.

    CAU is a statewide Elizabeth-based nonprofit providing support programs and services to adults with disabilities as well as youth served under the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to enable them to live independently in the community, providing supports in areas including housing, vocational skills and life-skills training, education, advocacy and recreation. The Fanwood project not only enhanced the building's aesthetic look and design but it improved the appeal of the surrounding neighborhood as well. CAU created the design that now provides accessibility and independence to people in the community, and a safe, energy-efficient building at an affordable rate.

    The Innovation in Public/Private Partnerships Awards recognizes unique public/private partnership programs that showcase innovative approaches to, and notable successful examples of, government and private sector partnerships that achieve public benefits.
