CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union Supports Alexandria's Walk to Fight Breast Cancer
CommonWealth One supported the 19th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer in Alexandria, Virginia, which raised more than $90,000 and was estimated to have 900 participants. Staff and members were participants of the race.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) November 01, 2012 - On Saturday, October 20, 2012 CommonWealth One supported and participated in the 19th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer in Alexandria, Virginia. The walk, sponsored by the City of Alexandria and Inova Alexandria Hospital, was held at the Hoffman Theatre on Eisenhower Avenue from 8:00 - 10:00 am. This year's walk raised more than $90,000 and was estimated to have 900 participants.
CommonWealth One was one of many businesses that sponsored the event with a booth and is proud to be an annual sponsor. Several of the credit union's employees also participated in the walk. Participants got to choose between 1.5K, 3.5K, or 5K in distance in which they could walk or run. One of CommonWealth One's employees placed third in the race.
The walk was started in 1994 to raise funds to give free mammograms to women in Alexandria who cannot afford them due to low wages or inadequate insurance coverage. Since its inception, donors have raised enough money to provide over 7,000 mammograms to Alexandria women.
