CommonWealth One Awards Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarships to Students
Each year CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union awards four scholarships to student members who excel in academics and pursue higher education. Emily Hutt and Kierra Gambrell are this year's winners.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - CommonWealth One is pleased to announce its 2011 Kathryn R. Coleman Scholarship winners: Ms. Emily Hutt from Spotswood High School and Ms. Kierra Gambrell from Virginia Commonwealth University. CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union has awarded two $1,000 scholarships each year for more than 20 years to help student members pursue a higher education. In 2006, the scholarship was named to honor CommonWealth One's former President and CEO, Kathryn R. Coleman, a well-known and respected figure in the credit union movement for almost 40 years.
Three judges rated scholarship applicants on their grade point averages, essay entries, community involvement and extra-curricular activities to determine this year's winners. Ms. Hutt hopes to major in biology at the University of Virginia, and pursue a career in neurological medicine. Ms. Gambrell is majoring in Criminal Justice, and minoring in Spanish. Her goal is to be a juvenile criminal defense lawyer in the Washington D.C. Metro area. Congratulations to both winners, and the best of luck in their future endeavors.
