CommBank Kaching gives Australians more ways to bank on more smartphones
Commonwealth Bank today made it possible for more Australians to embrace mobile banking on more devices, unveling a number of new innovations to its industry-leading and world-first social payments app CommBank Kaching.
- (1888PressRelease) July 05, 2012 - CommBank Kaching is now available on Google Android powered smartphones while Apple iPhones get an Australian first – Bump payments that allow money to be exchanged or a payment to be made by tapping two phones together. Commonwealth Bank also announced it will launch CommBank Kaching for Facebook later this year, making it possible for customers to do all their banking without ever leaving Facebook.
The innovative pay anyone, anywhere, anytime app has proved extremely popular, ringing up more than 365,000 downloads and $1 Billion in transfers since launch – remaining one of the most popular free finance apps in the Australian App Store, after the Bank’s CommBank app.
“We’re making banking simpler and more convenient. As promised, today we gave Android users access to Kaching which will particularly appeal to the youth market who are using Android more and more,” said Andy Lark, Chief Marketing and Online Officer, Commonwealth Bank.
“We’ve been able to answer our customers request for a common experience across any device, while addressing the unique capabilities of different platforms and the diversity of the Android smartphone market."
Today Commonwealth Bank customers log-in to the CommBank App over one million times every week from an Android powered device.
CommBank Kaching will be available across 13 Android devices including the Samsung Galaxy S3. Through CommBank Kaching Android users will have access to easy, everyday banking and will be able to make peer-to-peer payments using a person’s mobile phone or email address. Additionally, they will also be able to utilise world-first social network functionality, making payments to their Facebook friends. Functionality such as Near-Field Communication (NFC) payments and Bump will be made available once the respective handset and software vendors make that functionality available to the market.
Bump for iphone
Commonwealth Bank is also delivering another Australian banking first to the iOS platform – giving iPhone users the option to pay people using Bump. From today, CommBank Kaching customers will simply ‘bump’ phones with their intended recipient and an instantaneous payment will be made – making splitting the bill at dinner or paying your colleague back when you’ve forgotten your wallet, all the more simple.
Bump will be available to Apple iPhone users running iOS4.2 or above.
CommBank kaching – the facebook app
Commonwealth Bank is unveiling another Australian first, with a dedicated CommBank Kaching Facebook app.
“The power of Facebook for payments is only now becoming clear. It will change banking for consumers and for small business – providing hundreds of thousands of merchants in Australia with full payments systems access. No matter how sophisticated a business’ online presence is, they will now have access to a state of the art payments capability, making a level playing field for all,” said David Lindberg, Executive General Manager Cards Payments and Retail Strategy, Commonwealth Bank.
Customers will be able to view their balances and transactions, make peer-to-peer payments (to Facebook friends, mobile numbers and email addresses) and make BPAY® payments and third party transfers – all secured by NetCode SMS. The app will be available in Facebook later this year.
Security remains a priority for CommBank Kaching. Commonwealth Bank offers a 100% security guarantee meaning it will cover any losses should someone make an unauthorised transaction on a customer's account.
“We plan to regularly expand the functionality of CommBank Kaching. Bump and our Facebook app are the latest way we are simplifying peer-to-peer payments. We will continue to enhance our current apps and deliver cutting-edge technology which enables our customers to have greater control and access to their finances,” added Andy Lark.
David Lindberg concluded, “The payments landscape continues to transform the banking industry, I am convinced we are only at the beginning and the future will be extraordinary.”
