Comedy Hypnotist Don Barnhart Named America's Funniest Comedy Hypnotist
What happens when you combine an Award-Winning Comedian, a Second City Trained Improv Actor and Certified Hypnotist? You get Don Barnhart. America's funniest comedy hypnotist!
- (1888PressRelease) March 12, 2011 - For over 25 years, Don Barnhart has been practicing hypnosis and performing stand up comedy and it was only a few years ago that Don completed his hypnosis certification training and added this to his already successful stand up comedy show.
Combining improv, stand up and hypnosis is a unique take on the usual stage hypnosis show. Don invites volunteers to share the stage and spotlight with him by tapping into their creative potential and talents and not subjecting them to the usual ridicule and embarrassment seen in other hypnotic shows. It's like having a stage full of comedic entertainers with Barnhart serving as ringleader.
Don Barnhart's Comedy Hypnosis Show ran last summer in Las Vegas to glowing reviews. Las Vegas View said, "Barnhart's show is the only family friendly hypnosis show working regularly in Vegas and in an industry based on embarrassing and shocking antics Don's show is both refreshing and honest, empowering his volunteers."
Barnhart continues to perform both his stand up and hypnosis shows worldwide and headlines Vegas several times a year. One week you might catch him headlining his stand up act at Brad Garrett's Comedy Club at The Tropicana or Budd Friedman's Improv and the next week Don is performing his Comedy Hypnosis Show at a different venue making Barnhart a double threat who is continually working and constantly in the news.
In 2010, Don Barnhart received the International Performing Artist's "Bob Hope Award" for his continued service performing and producing comedy shows for the military overseas. Barnhart has been performing and producing comedy shows for the troops since his first USO tour back in 1992.
Don Barnhart's comedy career really gained steam when he won the American Idol Underground's Best Comedian Award in 2007 and was named their, "Artist to watch" and Entertainment Business Journal named him one of the, "Top 100 comedians to see" three years in a row.
As if this were not enough to keep Barnhart busy, Don is also an accomplished filmmaker, television producer and director. The Freedom of Speech Comedy Series which Don produced, hosted and directed was selected to showcase at The Montreal Comedy Festival in 2008 and that same year Don released China Dolls, his first feature film that he wrote, directed and starred in. The indie action thriller helped Barnhart to increase his ever growing fan base and the film got great audience reviews. Don used the power of social networking to self-distribute the project and to build its core audience.
I had the opportunity to interview Don over the phone while he was aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship, "I'm blessed to be able to make a living doing what I love and I consider both an honor and a privilege to entertain our men and women serving in the military. I'm kinda like the water boy on the Super Bowl team".
Barnhart has been seen, heard and featured on TV, Radio and Film: ABC, CBS, MTV, FOX, NBC, ABC Morning Show, Good Day Sacramento, Good Morning Northwest, Star Search, Evening At The Improv, Comedy Central, Freedom of Speech Comedy Show, Ocean's 13, Lunar Madness, In The Army Now, Apollo 13, The Ice House 50th Anniversary DVD, The Bob & Tom Show, XM/Sirius Satellite Radio and more.
The Don Barnhart Comedy & Hypnosis Show is currently on tour headlining the top comedy clubs across the country as well as cruise ships, corporate events, festivals, fairs, colleges and high schools.
Barnhart just completed writing the new comedy film, Freeloader. "It's the story of a returning Vet who ends up homeless in Las Vegas and uses comedy to find his way back. I always try to use comedy as a way to shine light on current social issues and this is a sort of a modern day Robin Hood Story", added Don. The film is already in pre-production and will begin filming later this year with Barnhart directing and starring in the comedy.
When Don does get spare time, he teaches comedy and improv from his home studio in Las Vegas sharing his vast knowledge of the comedy business helping craft the next generation of young comedians.
