The Talenthouse Sideshow Network's Comedy Contest picks comedian Don Barnhart as the grand-prize winner in their 2012 Comedy Contest.
As part of their 5 Spot series, The Sideshow Network offered aspiring comedians the incredible opportunity to submit their comedy reel or video demonstrating their comedic skills to the contest. The 5 Spot is the Improv's Comedy Club platform to help elevate up-and-coming comedians with quality stage time in front of someone who can help take them to the next level.
The judges and fans picked the grand prize winner and Don Barnhart will be invited to perform during a slot at a LEG Live owned comedy club stage, which will take place before one of the Levity's key booking agents. In addition, Don Barnhart will receive exposure on Levity's social media channels. Travel and two nights' accommodation in Los Angeles will be provided.
By winning the contest, Barnhart will gain exposure on the Sideshow Network, which is a collection of digital platforms delivering high-quality content to its online community. The network includes 30 comedy clubs nationwide, a dozen podcasts hosted by some of the biggest names in comedy, over 40 online properties including Improv.com and TweetTheJoke.com that touch millions of consumers each month. In addition, Sideshow Network has a social media network of sites, clubs and comedians totaling over 20 million fans and followers.
Barnhart has been gaining national popularity and hopes winning the Talent House contest will help brand him with name recognition. "The Levity Entertainment Group has been responsible for bringing some of the best comics to the mainstream not only by booking comics on the road but by producing their tv and film projects", said Barnhart. "Winning their contest is a huge feather in my cap and partnering up with them is something that could truly help bring my dreams to fruition".
Barnhart has written several original sit coms and his new novel, Freeloader is being turned into a feature film. Barnhart hopes that with the added exposure of the contest, he'll be able to star and direct the project. The film centers on a returning Veteran who ends up on the streets of Las Vegas and becomes the Robin Hood of the homeless using comedy to find his way back.
Barnhart hasn't been sitting idle waiting to be discovered. The award-winning comedian currently stars in the new documentary, Finding The Funny. The film, directed by comedian John Bizarre, follows a group of students taking Barnhart's comedy class in Las Vegas and explores the long debated topic whether or not you can teach someone to be funny featuring interviews with Brad Garrett, Louie Anderson and many others.
Besides standup, Barnhart himself is an accomplished director. He directed and appeared in The Ice House 50th Anniversary Comedy Special and is the creator, host and director of The Freedom of Speech Comedy Series which showcased at The Montreal Comedy Festival. Barnhart also wrote, directed and starred in the indie action thriller, China Dolls.
Barnhart is no stranger to winning competitions and awards. In 2010 he received the Bob Hope Award for his dedication to entertaining the troops around the world and won the grand prize in the 2007 American Idol Underground's Online Comedy Contest.
The Las Vegas Review lists Barnhart's show as one of their "Best Bets", The NY Times calls him, "Hilarious", The LA Times says, "One of the best" and Howard Stern said, "This guy's funny!"
