Colorado Springs campus to award diplomas to 160 graduates at City Auditorium on Friday, May 13.
- Colorado Springs, CO (1888PressRelease) May 13, 2011 - Graduates from CollegeAmerica will don caps and gowns this coming Friday, May 13,to receive their college diplomas. The graduates join the thousands of alumni who have received career training from CollegeAmerica through degree programs in Business, Graphic Arts, Healthcare, and Information Technology.
The program will commence with special keynote addresses from CollegeAmerica graduates Joe Alonge, Jimmy McCargar and Karen York.
The graduating class also includes a local mother and daughter duo, Sylvia and Roxann Ghist. Daughter Sylvia will be graduating with a Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Graphic Arts and mom, Roxann, an A.A.S. in Business Management and Accounting. Both women are the first to have earned college degrees in their family.
"[Earning my degree] has made me realize who I am and to become a better person. It's given me the confidence to go out into the world and show people my skills and what I have to offer," said Sylvia. She says she is most looking forward to having a career she enjoys instead of just a job.
Roxann considers her degree a step toward her ultimate dream of starting her own business.
"My goal has always been to start my own business, be my own boss. With a degree in business management and accounting, that is what I am striving for," said Roxann. But she says the accomplishment she is most proud of is that she and Sylvia earned their degrees together.
There will be 160 students in the 2011 graduating class.
