CodeWizardsHQ Launches its 2nd Annual Free Global Kids Coding Challenge
The coding challenge is an exciting opportunity, accessible to kids around the globe, to try this wonderful world of programming. By participating in this free challenge, more kids have an opportunity to learn how coding works and apply it in a fun way.
- (1888PressRelease) March 10, 2021 - CodeWizardsHQ is proud to present the second annual global kids Code Challenge, Deep Space Crystal Chase. The Code Challenge is a free event that is designed to be beginner friendly for ages 8-18. This event gives all kids the opportunity to try coding in a fun context that motivates them to learn more. Over 2,000 students and parents participated in the first Code Challenge in 2020 and over 6,500 voted for the grand prize winners. 97% of feedback received indicated that participants wanted to learn more about coding after the event.
“We were very happy with last year’s turnout and how much kids enjoyed being involved! We knew it would be fun, but we were surprised at how invested they were. Our student would come into class talking about the game and give each other hints. They were also able to help the kids playing who were coding for the first time. It was so much fun and I happen to know that this year is going to be even better,” Margaret Choi, Code Challenge Event Coordinator.
As kids follow the story of our hero Nym and his quest through the galaxy to save the Xocron crystal, they’ll be presented with 21 Python based coding questions. These questions first explain the coding principles, relevant across most coding languages, and then ask for that principle to be applied to help Nym race from planet to planet. Each correct answer earns the ability to move on to the next question. After those 21 questions, players earn a $25 CodeWizardsHQ gift card and access to the boss level. To defeat the boss, they will need to write a short program in Python or JavaScript. Anyone who writes a successful program will be placed in the Hall of Champions for public vote. The top 3 winners will receive a t-shirt and cash prize of $100, $50, and $25 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively.
“The coding challenge is an exciting opportunity, accessible to kids around the globe, to try this wonderful world of programming. By participating in this free challenge, more kids have an opportunity to learn how coding works and apply it in a fun way. What we saw last year is also families (moms, dads, developer uncles) engaging with kids in this coding challenge every day for three weeks. We sparked an interest in both parents and kids to want to know more about STEM and coding education. And that is what our mission of preparing kids for a digital future is all about.” Jey Iyempandi, CEO and Founder of CodeWizardsHQ.
Deep Space Crystal Chase makes learning coding fun, engaging, and educational for kids. The event starts on April 5th, but even late attendees can still catch up until April 25th. The boss level is issued April 28th and participants have through April 30th to submit their code. The voting round takes place May 3rd-7th with winners announced on May 14th.
