CNN Hero Sir Bruno Serato to Address "Making a Difference" at United Nations Gathering
Speech Before Global Entrepreneurship Initiative To Be Held in NYC June 15.
- (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2016 - Restaurateur, chef, humanitarian and CNN Hero Sir Bruno Serato has accepted an invitation to speak before a gathering of nationally known entrepreneurs at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on June 15. There he will discuss how a casual visit to a local Boys & Girls Club with his mother 11 years ago led to a region-wide effort to feed hungry children.
"I'm proud to join other leading entrepreneurs from all walks of life at this important summit," said Serato. "I will share with them how I founded Caterina's Club 11 years ago when my mother and I were visiting the club. There we saw a 7-year-old boy eating a bag of potato chips and learned that the snack was all he had for dinner. Mamma instructed me to prepare pasta for all of the kids that evening and we have been doing it every day since. I want to inspire those at the event to take up similar causes to help those in their own communities."
Caterina's Club serves some 1,800 motel kids" (so named as they are relegated to living in squalid conditions in cheap establishments) 5 nights a week in 28 locations including Brea, Yorba Linda, Placentia and Long Beach and has served more 1 million meals to date. His influence has extended far beyond the local area as other chefs in the U.S. and abroad including those in Chicago, New York, Texas, Mexico and Italy who learned of the program have begun feeding the hungry in their communities.
In addition to being the subject of worldwide publicity, Serato has been knighted by the Italian government, received a papal blessing from Pope Francis, a humanitarian award on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, was honored by the Good News Foundation (LA female newscasters who offer financial grants to worthy causes), received numerous proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition -- all of which he has accepted to generate public awareness of hunger in our communities.
