Newborn screening can help in picking up early signs of a number of metabolic disorders and improve the long-term health of babies.
When a baby has a metabolic disorder, the body of the infant can't break down the food correctly and converts it into energy or fuel, which can cause the body to have too much or too little of certain substances like amino acids, phenylalanine, and blood sugar.
