Cloudnine Hospitals Hosts World Prematurity Day 2014
Shares insights on measures undertaken by the hospital to reduce the neonatal deaths in Karnataka.
- (1888PressRelease) November 20, 2014 - On November 18, 2014, Cloudnine hospitals, in collaboration with the Indian Foundation for Preterm Babies (IFPB), hosted an event for World Prematurity Day 2014.
On this occasion, Dr. Kishore Kumar, Chairman, Cloudnine, unveiled the book by IFPB - Voice of the Voiceless - that depicts a mother's journey with her preterm baby. According to recent data, Preterm Birth (PTB) is the single largest cause of neonatal deaths globally. In India, among the total 27 million babies born annually, 3.6 million babies are born preterm, and over 300,000 of these preterm babies die each year because of associated complications.
Dr. Kishore Kumar addressed the issue of preterm deaths in the city. Not many hospitals have the expertise or man power or the technology to save extremely preterm babies in India. Cloudnine has pioneered in saving such babies and certainly have become leaders in that segment. With an experienced team of neonatologists on board, the hospital has been successful in managing a 99.72% neonatal survival rate.
He also emphasized the importance of the metabolic disease screening which is a mandatory step towards curbing the cases of neonatal fatalities in hospitals. It is of utmost importance for the parents expecting a preterm baby to ensure that the hospital has the latest neonatal equipment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and a skilled set of doctors and staff.
The event was also attended by some Cloudnine parents of premature babies who shared their experiences with the audience and members of the media present.
