Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew shares learning about the process of selecting an engineered timber floor & working experience with the WOODCUT Sydney team.
- (1888PressRelease) February 12, 2017 - Restoring an old farmhouse where everything is crooked is no easy feat. Yet, the rustic character of a home that has been restored sympathetically with its error in mind is worth the work, as Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew found.
Making the most of the variety and flexibility of WOODCUT flooring, the product Edwina started with changed direction when she realised how at home a knotty, textured engineered oak timber floor would look in her farmhouse.
What was the process of picking the perfect floor?
We were renovating a farmhouse so we wanted the floors to look the part. We were originally leaning towards a light Scandi type floorboard but this would have been too stark and too modern for the house.
We ended up choosing a floorboard with lots of knots and colour variations to tie in with the rustic style of the home.
Can you tell us a bit about the process of working with WOODCUT?
We had a lot of help from the Woodcut team to make sure the floors were perfect. Our home dates back to the 1890s so nothing is even - the walls, the floors, and the windows are all crooked. We needed a floor that would be flexible and also look good. The team worked closely with us and our builders to make sure we had the perfect fit.
What was the style and aesthetic you were aiming for in your home?
Rustic and aged with a lot of character. We choose not to seal our floors as we want them to mark and scratch over time. One of the lovely aspects of the Woodcut floor is the feel underfoot - it's beautiful.
What difference do you think a beautiful floor makes in a house?
The floor has made such a huge difference to the overall look of our home. It's the first detail our guests notice when they come in the door and everyone comments on how lovely it looks.
What tips would you give someone who is in the process of picking a beautiful floor for their home?
Make sure you don't just pick something from a magazine or Pinterest. Think about your surrounds, what you want the overall look of the house to be and choose something that will age will over the years.
