Cleveland Energy Services Company Gets Involved
Employees of Cleveland energy services company, Brewer-Garrett, recently volunteered at Camp Cheerful as a way to give back to their local community.

Members of The Brewer-Garrett Company spent a Day of Caring at the Achievement Center's Camp Cheerful. Strongsville resident and Brewer-Garrett General Manager, Greg McDonald, got the idea from a presentation last fall at the Strongsville Economic Development breakfast where Momentive Performance Materials was recognized for their innovation and contributions to the local community.
The Brewer-Garrett team brought over 30 volunteers to Camp Cheerful for the day. Leveraging their skills as a commercial HVAC company, they furnished and installed new exhaust fans in the equestrian stable to provide much needed ventilation for the horses in the spring and summer. They also reworked plumbing for the horse wash that tended to freeze in the winter to allow for ease of use year round.
Strongsville resident Rick Marconi, who is Brewer-Garrett's Controller, encouraged anyone to come out and help. "We have engineers, accountants, field technicians, project managers and sales reps working at Brewer-Garrett. To get everyone involved, we needed to do more than just technical work. The leadership at Camp Cheerful was great to work with and ensured everyone had something to do."
Other projects included pressure washing and staining two decks, painting the inside of one of the cabins and repairing bunk beds for the overnight campers. In addition, pool chairs and life preservers were pressure washed and cleaned.
Shelley Hoffman is the Achievement Center's Administrative Coordinator. Shelly, along with Facility Manager Will Davidson and Vice President Connie Boros were all on-site during the Saturday affair. "We really appreciate companies like Brewer-Garrett lending their time and expertise to the needs of the camp" comments Shelley. "We had three volunteer groups on Saturday, all of which helped us to ready our camp for summer and allow us to spend our funds on programs and resources for our campers. The success of Camp Cheerful would not be possible without volunteers."
The Achievement Centers for Children is a non-profit organization that provides support, services, and programs that help children with a wide range of physical, emotional, neurological, or developmental disabilities achieve their full potential in life. Camp Cheerful gives children and adults with disabilities an opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational activities.
