  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) December 14, 2010 - Citrin Cooperman, a leading regional accounting and business consulting firm, was ranked as the top accounting firm by Crain's New York Business, in its annual "Best Places To Work in New York City" list. Overall, the firm placed 27th amidst other companies throughout New York City.

Crain's New York Business, the leading business magazine in the New York metropolitan area, ranked Citrin Cooperman among the best for the third consecutive year. Citrin Cooperman was also recently ranked as the 6th best accounting firm to work for in the nation in the "large firm" category by Accounting Today, a leading industry trade magazine.

In honoring Citrin Cooperman, Crain's New York Business pointed to the firm's respect for employees' ideas as one of the reasons for inclusion on this year's list. Crain's New York Business noted that employee suggestions have fueled a wide range of improvements at Citrin Cooperman, including updated software, advanced leadership training, a formal maternity-leave policy, and curtailed working hours on days before major holidays. Additionally, employee input was integral to the firm's rebranding effort, launched in October.

"The professionals at Citrin Cooperman are the lifeblood of our firm, and our Partners consider their input vital to our ongoing success," said Joel Cooperman, the firm's managing partner. "We will continue to value their contributions, to our clients and our own firm, as we strive to build upon a work environment in which they can grow and be proud of."

Among the many benefits at Citrin Cooperman are: a four-week paid sabbatical after six years' employment, advanced leadership programs, cash bonuses for those who earn their CPA designation, a minimum of 100 hours of CPE training (annually), and bonuses based on accomplishments. New hires are provided mentors to acclimate to the position and to help them advance in the firm.

The firm offers Citrin Cooperman University, a highly acclaimed continuing education program for young accountants, and an International Work Exchange Program, offering professionals the opportunity to gain experience overseas abroad, working with Moore Stephens affiliates.

In selecting the Best Places to Work, Crain's New York Business partnered with an independent research firm, which conducted 13,131 surveys of employees across New York City. Employees answered a confidential, 76-question survey and employers an 81-question survey covering everything from benefits to opportunities for advancement to corporate culture. Scores were combined, with results from staff surveys making up 75% of the total score and the remainder coming from the employer surveys.

Citrin Cooperman has grown from an $18 million firm in 2000 to a more than $100 million operation in 2010 as it has been able to recruit and retain top talent in the accounting industry. The firm now employs 400 overall, including 250 in the firm's New York City headquarters.
