Cirrus Data Launches Data Migration Server for Legacy, Cloud and Data Storage Center Moves
Version 3.0 can natively run virtual appliances allowing the streamlining of P-to-V conversion as part of the migration process.
- (1888PressRelease) June 09, 2015 - New York, NY (USA) - Expanding the reach of live data storage migrations with zero downtown and no interruption of services is the motive behind Cirrus Data Solutionsrelease of its Data Migration Server version 3.0. DMS is built on proprietary and patented technology called "Transparent Datapath Intercept." Cirrus is a provider of applications that manage and optimize storage area networks (SANs).
"Data Migration continues to be a point of pain for companies outgrowing their storage infrastructure," said Sridhar Vasudevan, Principal Architect, Datalink Corporation. "We have a strong relationship with Cirrus Data, and have extensively used the DMS product to support our clients in their data migration requirements. The new features in version 3.0 further expands the scope of services we can provide to our customers."
Data Migration Server by Cirrus is the industry's first block-level data migration appliance designed from the ground up to eliminate production downtime during migration. DMS supports all types of data migration schemes including: local storage refresh and local to remote (data center move), legacy to cloud (physical to virtual), cloud to cloud, cloud to datacenter, and other common storage management practices.
Throughout the migration process, DMS requires zero downtime until the scheduled cut-over time.
Data Migration Server is based upon proprietary technology called "Transparent Datapath Intercept" which was built on the notion that data appliances should look like a wire when installed into a live SAN. Because of this intercept, the Cirrus Server can be installed in-line between the switch and the storage unit with as much ease as changing a Fiber Channel cable. The install takes five seconds per path.
"With worldwide Cloud initiatives going mainstream and with the amount of data growing at a dizzying rate, the need to migrate data from one place to another is also growing exponentially," says Wayne Lam, Cirrus CEO. "The IT manager has no way to migrate data fast enough, and can face negative consequences. This is why we developed Data Migration Server so that data center operations can take full advantage of cloud storage options that offer more flexibility to end users and can run more cost effectively, faster, and with less power consumption."
Data Migration Server 3.0 includes the following functionality for enterprise data centers:
* Remote Data Migration -- enables DMS appliances at different geographic locations to transfer data to one another, with encryption, compression and verification.
* Swing Box Support -- the ability to transport compressed data on low-cost drives.
* Cloud datacenter and Virtual Machine Environment Support -- DMS installs as a Linux VM and facilitates data movement from physical to virtual servers.
* 16-Path per DMS Cluster -- increasing the pipeline for data movement, with cluster support of up to 16 paths.
* No need to make switch zoning changes, to modify LUN masking or to change/add host drivers, which substantially reduces risks, and saves both time and money.
All Cirrus Data appliances are designed to be 100% transparent, requiring no modifications to the existing environment. Cirrus appliances are built on the patented Transparent Datapath Intercept technology, which allows for true plug-and-play installation of the appliances within a heterogeneous environment.
