CIHL Celebrates the Best of Hong Kong Hockey
Hong Kong elite ice hockey league CIHL celebrated the best of its sophomore 2012-2013 season with an awards night that saw South China Sharks captain Jamie Stark named the season's Most Valuable Player. Sharks forward Anthony Devolz picked up MVP Playoff honours for his three goal performance which led the Sharks to their first victory in the RBC Asia Cup.
- (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2013 - Hosted at Loft, players from the CIHL championship winning Sharks, the AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors, Quam Hong Kong Tycoons and the Macau Aces gathered to celebrate a second successful season as Hong Kong's first elite, full contact hockey league.
The Sharks' championship season included winning the regular season title and for his efforts, Reto Broennimann was named GM of the Year. Shark Craig Roessel was named Best Defenseman, while Stark picked up another award for being awarded the most number of New York Fries Three Star Awards.
Warriors captain Greg Smyth picked up his second consecutive award for his offensive efforts, earning the Most Points Regular Season award. Team mate Grant Phillips was named Best Goalie, while Samuel Wheeler picked up a pair of awards for his breakout 2012-2013 season, winning Best Forward and Rookie of the Year.
An integral part of the 2012-2013 season included further developing the partnership between the CIHL and youth ice hockey club the Hong Kong Typhoons. Several of the Typhoons' U18 players made their CIHL debuts this season, with some seeing ice time on a regular basis. One prospect to watch is regular CIHL call-up Korbinian Lutz, who earned this season's Top U18 Prospect award.
