The Churches of Scientology Disaster Response participated in the Governor's Be Ready Day.
- (1888PressRelease) September 13, 2011 - Disasters can happen anywhere at any time. That is why the Governor of Alabama Robert Bentley is hosting "Be Ready Day" at Troy University, where disaster preparedness organizations are gathering to display their wares and teach citizens how to prepare for the worst.
Among the organizations at the event there will be the National Weather Service, the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, International Relief and Development Organization, 211 Service, the Department of Homeland Security, the Churches of Scientology Disaster Response, the Alabama Amateur Radio Emergency Services, the American Red Cross, the Central US Earthquake Consortium, the FCCLA, the South Central Alabama Development Commission, the UAB Department of Social Work and SouthernLinc Wireless.
The Churches of Scientology Disaster Response spokesperson Julie Brinker said, "it's best to practice what to do in case of emergency. If you know what to do and have a plan, more than likely the worst will never happen."
The Governor's Office arranged for this event after the April 27 tornadoes that swept through Alabama killing over 60 people. Since that time, cleanup efforts around the state have brought neighbors and strangers together to help piece everything back together.
"We are always ready to step up and help someone else in need," says Brinker, "it is a duty of a Scientologist to answer the call in a time of need, and we are blessed to find so many good people in Alabama who answer this call as well."
