  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) September 28, 2017 - One in three Texas women will know domestic violence in their lifetime, but Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is on a mission to help remedy that. In an ongoing effort to give back to the communities it serves, team members of a local Church’s Chicken® and attendees of the brand’s annual Excellence in Leadership Conference recently visited the women’s shelter to show support and hand out hot meals. On Friday, Sept. 15th, Church’s® provided Family Meals to more than 100 people at the Genesis shelter – both residents (women and children escaping domestic violence) and staff members.

“It’s truly a privilege to be able to positively impact our communities beyond chicken and beyond what is expected of us,” said Felicia White, Director of National Field Training for Church’s. “Our team was just as grateful to have the opportunity to serve as those who were served!”

In addition to its efforts on Friday, Church’s collected donations of gently worn clothing during its annual Excellence in Leadership Conference at the Hilton Anatole last week, and will continue to do so from its headquarters in Atlanta. The clothes will be sold at the Genesis Benefit Thrift Store, with all proceeds going toward ensuring that Genesis clients can continue to receive life-saving services at no cost. During the conference, attendees also prepared care packages for moms, babies and families.

“Because of amazing donors, volunteers and organizations like Church’s Chicken, we are able to provide life-changing services to more than 1,300 women and children experiencing domestic violence each year,” said Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter. “Church’s went above and beyond – in addition to collecting contributions and care packages, team members personally gave their time to serve the women and children who live in our shelter. We applaud the Church’s Chicken team and the entire organization for taking a zero-tolerance stance against domestic violence.”

Last week, Church’s also presented to Jan Langbein a check for $5,000 to Genesis during the brand’s annual leadership conference.

“We hope this marks the beginning of a lasting relationship with the shelter and furthers our efforts in building strong ties within our community,” said White.
