Church of Scientology's Cub Scout Pack 313 Celebrates Advancements in Clearwater
Pack 313, chartered to the Church of Scientology, Flag Service Organization, honored Cub Scouts and their parents for progress made in Scouting.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) November 13, 2015 - Fifteen Cub Scouts were honored for their progress in Scouting at the annual Ichabod Crane Night on October 27th. The ceremony, held at Clearwater's Delphi Academy, included a Jack O'Lantern carving competition in addition to the advancements.
The Pack, chartered to the Church of Scientology, Flag Service Organization, had five Cubs advance to the rank of Tiger Cub. This is the second rank in Cub Scouts and is earned by the Cub fulfilling six requirements and one elective. The requirements cover subjects such as "Making my family special", (promoting family activities); "Keeping myself healthy and safe" (providing basic training in hygiene and fitness); and "How I tell it" (how to communicate).
Eight of the Cubs earned "My Family's Duty to God" advancement. This is given to Cubs who have learned about the religious foundation of their family and has them examine their family's relationship to God. The Cubs awarded in October were: Just Adams, Diras Ahuja, Eli Bara Skrornek, Nico Bellotti, Logan Chesniard, Karin Montero, Aiden Muntean and Logan Sene.
Included in the ceremony was a pledge by the Cub Scout parents to enthusiastically support their son's endeavors in Scouting.
The ceremony was followed by the presentation of awards to the Cubs for their skills in pumpkin carving. No Cub went unacknowledged; in addition to a certificate, they were presented with a goodie bag of treats and a copy of a classic pulp fiction story by L. Ron Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard himself was a Boy Scout in his youth, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of thirteen.
About his experience, Mr. Hubbard later said "Of all the various information which became important to me, such as photography, woodlore, signaling and many other subjects, the basis of it was laid in Scouting. I am indebted to a great many, very fine men who gave their time and attention to a restless, boisterous and extremely active boy and teenager, and I must have tried their patience many times, but I never heard of it from them."
Mr. Hubbard would go on to live a life of adventure and service to his fellow man, discovering the basic fundamentals of what would become Dianetics and Scientology.
Other Eagle Scouts have become US Presidents, (Gerald Ford); landed on the moon, (Neil Armstrong); directed award-winning films, (Steven Spielberg and Michael Moore); become professional athletes (basketball's Bill Bradley, baseball's Albert Belle and Olympian Willie Banks); and headed up international corporations.
"Cub Scouts are the first step in becoming a capable member of society," said Church of Scientology spokeswoman Pat Harney. "I am very proud of our Cubs and their progress toward more advanced levels of Scouting."
Pack and Troop 313 have been chartered by the Church of Scientology, Flag Service Organization, for more than 20 years.
