Chukar Cherries Gives Back to Community in 2011
Pacific Northwest small business donates over $24,000 with a focus on local causes
- Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA (1888PressRelease) February 22, 2012 - Chukar Cherries launched Social Responsibility Gifting and targeted their giving toward local causes in 2011. A major portion of the donations went to community organizations such as the Historic Downtown Prosser Association and Oregon's Wallowa Resources. Donations were also made to Autism Speaks, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and numerous community projects.
Chukar Cherries is a family owned specialty food company located in the heart of Washington's wine and cherry growing region. Sourcing fruit locally and creating good manufacturing jobs in the Yakima Valley are part of Chukar's mission. So, it's not surprising that Chukar's largest single donation was made to their local community. In December 2011 Chukar donated $10,000 to the Historic Downtown Prosser Association, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of the township where Chukar's manufacturing headquarters and flagship store are located.
In October of 2011 Chukar launched Social Responsibility Gifting, a program that integrates giving into Chukar's day-to-day business. The program insures that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of select products goes to non-profits including Autism Speak (autismspeaks.org), Wallowa Resources (wallowaresources.org), and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrfcure.org). According to Founder and CEO Pam Montgomery, "Chukar's Social Responsibility Gifting initiatives give customers a way to give with both their heart and wallet when sending a gift."
During the 2011 holiday season, Chukar garnered enough funds through this newly launched program to give over a thousand dollars to each of two worthy nonprofits: Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, and Wallowa Resources, an organization that advocates stewardship and responsible land use in northeast Oregon.
Chukar's Social Responsibility Gifting products and their full line of naturally dried cherries, chocolate-covered cherries, fruit and nut mixes, and cherry sauces can be purchased at Chukar's store in Pike Place Market, their factory storefront in Prosser, WA, and online at chukar.com.
The Chukar Story
In 1988 our family launched Chukar Cherries on our beloved cherry orchard to showcase the natural bounty of Washington's fruit lands. To this day, our approach in the Chukar Kitchen is simple-transform tree-ripened local fruits and hearty nuts into freshly made, extraordinary cherry and chocolate gifts. One taste and you'll know that Chukar is synonymous with the Best of Nature, Best of ChocolateŽ.
