Chinmaya Naada Bindu Celebrates First Anniversary with Festival for Arts
Chinmaya Mission's music and dance gurukul to host performances by renowned dancers and musicians for Patrons from Mumbai and Pune to celebrate a year of its being. The gurukul is the first of its kind in India, catering to students of ALL forms of dance and music in the country.
- (1888PressRelease) September 16, 2010 - Patrons of the performing arts in Mumbai and Pune have a lot to look forward to this weekend. Chinmaya Naada Bindu, a first-of-its-kind Gurukul for all the Indian performing arts, is celebrating its first anniversary with the Naada Bindu Festival for the Arts, a 4-day Arts Immersion Retreat from September 18 to 21.
The festival, being held at Chinmaya Vibhooti's sprawling 70 acre campus in Kolwan, Pune, will feature performances and workshops by some of the most renowned artists in the country, along with daily spiritual discourses by Swami Tejomayananda, global head of the Chinmaya Mission.
"We had started Naada Bindu because we felt that there was a dire need in the country to preserve the gurukul system of musical and performing arts education. With the increased westernization and commercialization of the arts, we felt that Naada Bindu would be a welcome retreat for those who sought to truly immerse their souls into this discipline. Through this festival, we hope to give people a taste of the treasure they will find in this gurukul," said Himanshu Nanda, Director of Music, Chinmaya Naada Bindu.
Some of the music artists presented at the festival include Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande (Hindustani Vocal), Kala Ramnath (Hindustani Violin), Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar (Sarod), Ganesh / Kumaresh (Carnatic Violin), Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar (Hindustani Vocal) and Chandrashekhar Vaze (Hindustani Vocal).
The festival will also treat patrons to three styles of classical dances. Internationally acclaimed Nrityagram dancers will perform stunning Odissi choreographies while Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant will include the ritual dance of Simhanandini in her Kuchipudi performance (This dance involves the drawing of a lion's face with the dancing toes on a canvas spread over colored powder).
In her Bharata Natyam performance, Ramaa Bharadvaj, Director of Dance, Chinmaya Naada Bindu, will render her new solo dance-theater presentation "MITRA", celebrating "Friendship" through the lyrics of poets from Vyasa to the Shankaracharya of Kanchi, in multiple languages, and set to music by Rajkumar Bharathy.

Patrons registering for the event will be provided with spacious accommodation and nutritious vegetarian meals. The donation for the entire festival is a mere Rs. 3000/- (covering lodging/boarding, spiritual talks by Swami Tejomayananda, workshops to be conducted by some of the artists, concerts as well as pickup/drop facility up to Lonavala).
