Chinese Delegation Visits Portobello Square On Fact-Finding Mission
A delegation of civil servants from the Chinese Ministry of Housing has visited Portobello Square to learn more about the scheme.
- (1888PressRelease) November 10, 2012 - According to delegation leader Mr Cao Jinbao, director general at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, China is in the process of renewing its social housing system. He and his team from across China are very keen to learn from examples of regeneration in the UK.
The visit included a short presentation on the background to the project, led by project director Griff Marshalsay, and a tour of the site offices.
Project director Griff Marshalsay said: "This regeneration project is the largest scheme of its type Catalyst has ever undertaken. It is unique in that it involves us redeveloping our own stock rather than winning a contract to take over and redevelop housing from a council.
"We are thrilled that this delegation has come over from China to come and look at the regeneration of the Wornington Green Estate and the surrounding area.We have really enjoyed talking to our guests about the project and are proud that a group from the other side of the world is interested in and wants to learn from what we are doing."
Mr Cao Jinbao, director general at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said:"We were deeply impressed with what Catalyst has achieved here in this regeneration program - the detailed planning process, the quality standards, and, most importantly, the benefit for the local community. There is a lot that we can learn here. We hope to be kept informed of the progress of further phases so that we can keep up to date with this project."
