China Updates Product Standard for Washed Garments
China has updated its product standard for washed garments GB/T 22700. The 2016 version of the standard was implemented on July 1, 2017.
- (1888PressRelease) August 25, 2017 - On July 1, 2017, the China National Standardization Technical Committee for Apparel implemented an updated version of GB/T 22700 Washed garments. The new version, GB/T 22700-2016, replaces GB/T 22700-2008.
The standard has been updated to meet the current expectations concerning product quality, with the intention that they will create standardization regarding production, sales and marketing.
GB/T 22700-2016 covers washed garments that are mainly made from woven fabrics but it does not apply to denim wear and clothing for infants (36-months or under). The standard defines washed garments as those which are processed by one or more washing methods stonewash, sand wash, enzyme wash, bleach wash, snow wash, etc. It applies whether the washing process was done on a finished garment, semi-finished garment or before manufacture has started, i.e. the fabric stage.
The new version of the standard contains a number of technical revisions, including updates for:
Instructions for use
Provision of raw materials, stripe matching, plaid matching, sewing rules, ironing
Requirements for physical and chemical properties, testing method, colorfastness to dye transfer, finished products and quality defect for finished products
In addition, the updated version has deleted provisions for stitching fabrics, tolerance specification and deviation, and the test method for seam slippage.
