China Updates Product Standard for Trench Coats - FZ/T 81010-2018
Stakeholders are reminded China has updated its product standard for trench coats. The new standard came into effect in September 2018.
- (1888PressRelease) January 24, 2019 - On September 1, 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China implemented its new industry standard for trench coats FZ/T 81010-2018. The new standard replaces FZ/T 81010-2009.
FZ/T 81010-2018 contains several updates to the previous standard. These include changes to the:
Applicable scope of the standard
Normative references
Instructions for the use of the product
Requirements for stripe matching and plaid matching, sewing rules, raw materials, appearance defects, specification tolerance, warp yarn and weft yarn
Technical requirements for dimensional changes after washing/dry-cleaning, colorfastness to light, seam slippage, peeling strength of adhesive interlining and tear strength
Test methods, inspection and classification rules, and judgment rules
The new standard adds the following provisions:
Trench coats for children aged 36 months to 14 years must comply with the requirements of GB 31701
Technical requirements also specify lining, colorfastness to transfer in joints, phenolic yellowing, dye transfer, appearance after washing/dry-cleaning, air permeability, hydrostatic pressure and water-vapor transmission rate
The revised standard also deletes:
Provision relating to stitching fabrics and requirement for crinkles after dry cleaning
FZ/T 81010-2009 Annex A - Test method for seam slippage
The revision has added several new tests. These cover fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, banned azo colorants, odor, dimensional changes after washing, dimensional changes after dry cleaning, colorfastness of shell (washing, dry cleaning, water, perspiration, rubbing, light, hot pressing, colorfastness to transfer in joints, phenolic yellowing and dye transfer), colorfastness of lining (washing, dry rubbing, water and perspiration), pilling, seam slippage, peeling strength of adhesive interlining, tear strength, appearance after washing/dry-cleaning, functions (windproof, waterproof and water-vapor transmission).
FZ/T 81010-2018 should be applied to all woven trench coats, excluding those designed for children aged less than 36 months. Stakeholders should contact a recognized testing and verification service for more information on complying with the requirements of FZ/T 81010-2018.
