China Introduces New Standard for Silk Scarves and Shawls - FZ/T 43014-2018

In September 2018, China implemented FZ/T 43014-2018, a new standard for silk scarves and shawls. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) March 23, 2019 - China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology implemented a new Industry Standard for silk scarves and shawls on September 1, 2018.

FZ/T 43014-2018 – silk scarf and shawl – covers products that are predominantly made from pure silk or materials blended or interwoven with other yarns or fibers, where the silk content is at least 30%. The standard does not apply to products for children and infants but can apply to silk scarves and shawls with burnt-out effect.

The standard includes, inter alia, requirements for:
• Internal Quality – requirements for fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, decomposable carcinogenic arylamines dyes, odor, dimensional changes after washing, dimensional changes after dry cleaning and colorfastness (washing, dry-cleaning, water, perspiration, light, rubbing, and hot pressing)
• Appearance - requirements for dimensional tolerance, color difference, appearance defects, sewing quality and ironing quality

Stakeholders are advised to now ensure they understand the requirements of the new standard.
