China Consults Over Proposed Changes to Several Product Category Standards
SGS publishes SafeGuardS detailing China’s announcement of proposals to change several mandatory standards for a range of consumer goods, including products intended for children.
- (1888PressRelease) September 20, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 138.24 summarizing an announcement by the World Trade Organization (WTO) detailing China’s proposals to adopt and/or replace several mandatory consumer goods standards, including those for children’s products.
The standards cover a wide range of consumer goods, including:
• Construction/architectural/industrial coatings
• Indoor decorating and refurbishment materials
• Childcare products
• General children’s products
• Children’s ride-on and activity articles
As announced by the WTO on August 27, 2024, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China) is consulting on three draft standards that are intended to replace several national standards.
