Children Took An Oath To Be Safe On The Roads - An Initiative By Safe Kids Foundation
An unbeatable spirit of joy and precaution, encouraged children to register for 'Safe Kids Walk This Way' activity at R-City Mall, Ghatkopar which was scheduled on 9th & 10th May, 2014.
- Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) May 29, 2014 - The program organized by Safe Kids Foundation India, received an overwhelming response from children, adults, brands alike.
Children in India are particularly vulnerable to traffic injuries because almost all children walk as their primary means of transportation. In 2012 according to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 139,091 people were killed due to road traffic crashes and 7,135 of them were children below 14 years old.
Safe Kids Foundation launched Safe Kids Walk This Way, a pedestrian safety program in Mumbai in October, 2007 and expanded in Delhi and Ahmedabad in following years. So far, the Walk This Way program has reached 3,278,000 children in over 2,000 schools through its educational sessions and awareness activities. In FY14 SKFI reached out to 302,000 children in over 415 schools through classroom education sessions.
An extension of the above program, "Slow Down for Kids" pleads adults to drive slowly when in areas of schools, hospitals, playgrounds, etc. Safe Kids demonstrated to the drivers/adults the spots where young children cannot be spotted with the 'Spot the Tot' area.
Safe Kids Foundation encourages and educates children on the importance of wearing a seatbelt and the types of car restraints seats for different age groups with its program "Grown Up? Strap Up!"
In an endeavour to reach to maximum children outside school premises, this activity was held on a large scale at R-City Mall in Mumbai. Through fun activities like Live Skit performance, Jigsaw puzzles, memory games, tic tac toe, snakes and ladders and much more, Safe Kids Foundation ensured that children learnt this important lesson through. Children earned badges and certificates on successful completion of each of the activity. Finally they proceeded to the pledge wall, where they put their handprint and pledged to follow the road safety rules.

Safe Kids Foundation India, a network of Safe Kids Worldwide is an organization which is dedicated towards prevention of unintentional injuries to children. Notable achievements:
Change in color of raincoats: Prior to the monsoons, Mumbai Municipal Corporation gives raincoats to the students of public schools. Earlier these raincoats were either of brown or black color. Safe Kids advocated for bright colored raincoats so that students would be visible to drivers during the rains. This year bright colored raincoats were distributed.
Commendatory Note: Safe Kids Foundation was awarded a "Commendatory Note" by Mumbai Police (Traffic).This was in recognition of Safe Kids Foundation's work in spreading Road Safety Awareness.
World CSR Award: Safe Kids Foundation was honored for its work in the category of "Best Prevention Idea" by World CSR Congress at its Global NGO Excellence Summit in Mumbai for the Safe Kids Walk This Way program.
