Children's Surf Book Introduces Surfing To The Youngest Ocean Enthusiasts
Jake's First Wave explains surfing basics and water safety while capturing the excitement of catching that first wave.
- Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Goleta, CA (1888PressRelease) August 13, 2010 - Every child loves the beach. The sun, the sand, the waves are what make up great childhood memories. For surfers, there's no better way to capture the beach experience then to pass on the love of surfing to their children. Author Shelly Cone captures the essence of this aspect of the surf lifestyle in her latest children's surf book Jake's First Wave.
Jake's First Wave is a story about a father and son bonding over their love for surfing. Cone said since there are so few books about surfing targeted to younger kids she thought this book filled that void.
"Since much of surfing knowledge is often passed from parent to child I thought it was important to have this element of bonding between father and son, rather than just a book that explains surfing and the importance of respecting the ocean. Instead, parent and child explore it together," Cone said.
If there's anyone who understands the draw of the ocean it's Kathy Kohner Zuckerman, aka "Gidget," the woman who inspired the Gidget series. Kohner Zuckerman gave the book high regards for its colorful illustrations and touching storyline.
"It's a beautifully illustrated, heart-warming story about a little boy who catches his first wave. I loved it!" Kohner Zuckerman said.
The book contains lively illustrations by California acrylic and water color artist Hattie Stoddard. Jake's First Wave is 36 pages and retails for $14.95. To purchase Jake's First Wave visit www.JakesFirstWave.com
