  • (1888PressRelease) May 19, 2015 - Local children's book author Kelly Davis Beckley visited St. Patrick School in Tacoma to share with the students a personal reading of her book, Faith, the Ugly Dog (The Adventures of Buzzardillopossum). Kelly engaged the students in fun and inspirational learning activities that focused on the messages of tolerance, acceptance and forgiveness shared in her book.

"The school is still talking about the event and it is my sincere hope we can continue to work together in many different ways", said St. Patrick School librarian, Julie Reil. "I am going to make a photo scrap book for the children that they can check-out and remember this deeply felt experience again and again."

Faith, the Ugly Dog tells the story of a little dog that has been told, and is convinced, that her ugliness on the outside means more than the kindness, sweetness and bravery that she has on the inside. After encountering a mean dog that bullies her and makes fun of her, and her transformation into the superhero "Buzzardillopossum", Faith realizes her true inner worth and value. A testimonial from Kelly's website states, "I love the message your book offers. Faith displays a true, kind heart. While reading this to my granddaughter, it gave me the opportunity to discuss with her why we should all try to be like Faith. We were able to talk about having choices as to how we react to others and choosing the kind, loving way rather than "getting even" or being mean. Thanks for writing a book that can be used as a tool for how we act, young or old."

Kelly donates 10% of book sales to Seattle Children's Hospital and 10% of book sales to The Humane Society of the United States.
