Child Abuse Prevention Services Announces the Opening of the CAPS Bully Prevention Center-the First to Offer Direct Support to Parents

Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) September 29, 2010 - Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS), Long Island's leading non-profit resource on the prevention of bullying, child abuse and neglect is launching a new initiative: the CAPS Bully Prevention Center. Now parents have a place to turn to find the resources and solutions they need to help their bullied child.

"When a parent discovers their child is involved in a bullying situation, many may feel at a loss as to how to protect them and stop the harassment," said Alane Fagin, MS, Executive Director. The new division-the Bully Prevention Center-aims to teach parents how to:

- effectively talk to their kids about bullying and cyber-bullying

- practice bully-proofing and child safety skills with their child

- work with their child's school toward resolving bullying and cyber-bullying incidents.

The Bully Prevention Center combines the agency's signature in-school programs for children, prevention workshops for parents, and staff development and training for school professionals, with parent coaching and strategies toward creating concrete solutions. CAPS K-12 programs speak to bullies, targets and bystanders about bully prevention, relational aggression, sexual harassment and Internet safety, and are provided at no cost (currently they are available only to schools in Nassau and Suffolk counties).
