On May 25th, Chicago MC/DJ/Producer, Fess Grandiose, will be sharing the stage with West Coast Hip-Hop pioneer, DJ Quik.
Grandiose- originally from Chicago's South Side, currently resides in Logan Square. He recently released his debut, self-produced album, Life In Lo-Fi... Vol. 1, which features longtime J. Dilla & Madlib collaborator, Guilty Simpson, as well as guest appearances from other up-and-coming Chicago artists.
For live sets, Grandiose scratches records and triggers samples while performing his lyrics, and is backed onstage by a drummer and bass player (The Lo-Fi Trio). He recently performed with Slum Village at The Double Door, where he will return on May 25th to open for Quik.
DJ Quik is considered a driving force behind the West Coast Hip-Hop scene in the late 80s and early 90s, and remains a respected and innovative artist and producer. In addition to producing his own albums, he has also written, produced, and remixed music for Suge Knight, Tony! Toni! Tone´!, and Jermaine Dupri, among many others. 2011's The Book of David received critical acclaim, debuting at number 55 on the US Billboard 200, and features appearances from Ice Cube, Kurupt, and Dwele.
