  • Jacksonville, FL (1888PressRelease) July 11, 2013 - North Florida's fastest-growing junior roller derby team, the Cherry Bomb Charmers, will take the floor for a full length, full contact bout with the Georgia-based SK8 City Sirens on Sunday, August 4th.

This "Florida-Georgia" of junior roller derby bouts will be held at the Skate Station Funworks located at 230 Blanding Blvd., in Orange Park, Florida, at 6:00pm on Sunday, April 4th. Skate Station doors will open at 5:30pm for the bout. Admission for the event is $9 and children ages 10 and under are admitted free. The Cherry Bomb Charmers are proud to offer free admission to all active-duty military with valid military ID.

The August 4th bout will be the first standalone, junior roller derby bout for the Cherry Bomb Charmers since recruitment for the team began in late February. The Charmers' intra-league exhibition bouts (White v. Red) have allowed the junior skaters to showcase their skills, but the skaters are definitely looking forward to pitting themselves against their sisters from Georgia. The August showdown will be the first bout for the Sirens as well. "The SK8 city sirens are a newly formed roller derby league in Savannah, Georgia. We are pleased and excited to participate in our first bout with Cherry Bomb Charmers" said Sirens' spokesperson Jennifer Trudell-Butler.

Charmers President and General Manager Dana Wolfe added, "Don't be fooled by the word 'junior' here. This is roller derby. The only difference between junior derby and adult derby is the age of our skaters. Both teams have been training hard and are ready to roll - the girls skate hard and hit hard."

The goal of the Cherry Bomb Charmers junior roller derby team is to encourage young skaters to realize their full potential and to empower them to become courageous young women, radiating confidence on and off the track. As a Charmer, junior derby skaters learn lifelong team-building skills. They learn strength and independence, all the while celebrating their own individuality and unique identity in an atmosphere of sisterhood and family-like stewardship.

The Cherry Bomb Charmers are a 501(c)3 nonprofit junior roller derby team and are based in Orange Park, Florida.
