- (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2020 - The Cherie Blair Foundation for Women announces the launch of the 100,000 Women Campaign, today in Davos alongside the World Economic Forum.
Since its inception in 2008 the Foundation has directly supported over 160,000 women across more than 100 lower and middle income countries, contributing to the global movement to achieve economic gender equality and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It now seeks to build on these successes and impacts to reach 100,000 more women over the next three years through the Foundation’s technology and training offer, working in countries including Nigeria, Mexico, Kenya, Indonesia and Vietnam. With additional ambitions to undertake significant research and advocacy work, the campaign will empower even more women by transforming the ecosystem for women business owners around the world, enabling many more women to thrive.
To achieve these important goals to increase the scale, breadth and impact of its work, the Campaign will raise £10 million by 2022 from individuals, companies and institutions who share its vision of a world where women and men have equal access to entrepreneurship.
As one of the key organisations working successfully internationally towards achieving economic gender parity, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women enables women entrepreneurs through enhancing access to skills, networks, markets and finance, and presses for changes that help to break down the barriers that women in business face. It does this with mobile technology, blended learning programmes, mentoring, face to face business incubation, and network development.
To reach its fundraising goal, the Foundation’s Founder, Cherie Blair, is convening a Global Campaign Board with a select group of visionary philanthropists, business leaders and experts in the field. The Campaign has also won high-profile backing from influential figures including Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose video message of support can be viewed on the Foundation’s website.
“In 2019, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women co-published analysis with Boston Consulting Group, showing that if women and men participated equally as entrepreneurs, global GDP could rise by up to $5 trillion. Our vital 100,000 Women Campaign – and the aspirations driving it – are built out of this opportunity and over a decade of experience working with women entrepreneurs.” – Helen McEachern, CEO, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women
“The Cherie Blair Foundation for Women exists to break down the barriers women entrepreneurs face by providing access to networks, mentoring and learning opportunities designed specifically for women, tailored to the low and middle income communities in which we work. The global gender gap in entrepreneurship not only restricts economic opportunities and livelihoods for families around the world, it means half the world’s population being denied basic human rights. This Campaign will enable us to help redress the balance and redefine the future for women entrepreneurs as a result. We couldn’t be more excited.” – Cherie Blair CBE QC, Founder, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women
“I’m thrilled that the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women has announced the ambitious goal of reaching 100,000 more women entrepreneurs in low- and middle-income countries. Each and every one of us has a role to play in making that happen. Empowering women is one of the smartest investments we can make. That’s why I am delighted to support such a timely and vital campaign, and why I want to invite you to join me.” – Hillary Rodham Clinton
