Chateau de Bangkok, a leading Thai hotel, is well-placed to take advantage of the Thailand's recent win in the prestigious Irish Travel and Trade Awards.
(1888PressRelease) February 23, 2009 - Thailand has won the 'Best Asian/Australasian Destination' crown for the second year running in the prestigious Irish Travel Trade News Awards 2008. Chateau de Bangkok expects the win to boost business.
The Irish Travel Trade News Awards are considered by industry insiders to be the travel equivalent of the Oscars. In both 2007 and 2008, Thailand beat out large competing destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia in the competition.
Tanes Petsuwan, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in London, noted that "Ireland is a fast growing market with some 50,000 Irish visitors annually". In some months, visitors from the UK and Ireland have jumped by up to 25,000 within 30 days.
Mr Somrudee Nooner, Director of Sales and Marketing at Chateau de Bangkok, says that "Thailand is especially attractive to Irish visitors because of the large discrepancy between cost of living in our countries. However, Irish visitors are accustomed to high standards of service and accommodation, as well as extra facilities in their Bangkok hotels. That is why Chateau de Bangkok is uniquely placed to profit from this win."
Thailand won the best Asian/Australasian travel destination award in 2007 also, and the 'Best Long Haul Destination' from a global field in 2002.
President of the Irish Travel Agents Association, Jim Vaughan, was also positive about the tour9ism industry's prospects for 2009. "The travel and tourism industry, historically, is a resilient industry and I have no doubt that it will be resilient again," he said.
