Chancellor's Inaugural Year Full of Major Achievements
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) celebrates the momentous inaugural year of Dr. Laurence B. Alexander as Chancellor. As the new Chancellor's inaugural year is coming to a close, the University reveals its recent accomplishments as well as its plans to increase enrollment to 4,000 in 2 years.
- Pine Bluff, AR (1888PressRelease) August 28, 2014 - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) celebrates the momentous inaugural year of Dr. Laurence B. Alexander as Chancellor. During this time the university has achieved the following:
- Accreditation for the School of Business and Management
- Completion of $10 million STEM Conference Center
- Establishment of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Development
- Establishment of the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development
- Re-imaging of the university through branding and marketing
- Received $200,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation to enhance the Learning Institute and Opportunities for
New Students Program (LIONS Program).
- A 5-fold expansion of LIONS program (from 30 to 170 students)
- Creation of $2 million in new student scholarships
- University of Arkansas System's Board of Trustees approval to begin a concurrent enrollment program for high school students.

I am proud of the extraordinary work our faculty and staff are doing to ensure we prepare students for the 21st century workforce," Dr. Laurence Alexander, said.
"With the establishment of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Development and the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development, UAPB is able to stimulate growth and expansion, through broadening our donor base and ensuring that the institution is a part of the economic development of the City of Pine Bluff. "
UAPB has installed a supercomputer to enhance learning and research among faculty and students participating in the newly established STEM Academy, and the new concurrent enrollment program for high school students will begin next year. This program allows students to take courses for which they will receive both high school and college credit, and it serves as a bridge to ease students into the higher education environment.
The university also unveiled a new institutional brandmark, which embodies the distinctive characteristics that make this university great-legacy and excellence - but also represents our progressive spirit.
