Challenge Issued for Breast Cancer by YWCA Princeton Breast Cancer Resource Center
The Breast Cancer Resource Center is challenging 100 women to raise $100 dollars in 100 days to support the center's services for those affected by breast cancer.
- Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2012 - A challenge has been issued by the Breast Cancer Resource Center ("BCRC") of the YWCA Princeton to all women. They are being challenged to each raise $100 in 100 days to help the center support local women affected by breast cancer.
The aptly named the 100 Women, 100 Ways, 100 Days Challenge, runs from February 4 to May 13 with the 100th day culminating on Mother's Day. The goal is to raise $10,000 to support the Breast Cancer Resource Center's free programs and services to help women from across central New Jersey and Bucks County to live with, through, and beyond breast cancer.
Challenge participants can do almost anything to raise the funds, from the simple to the extravagant, from the ordinary to the unusual. Hosting a cocktail party, brunch, or wine & cheese are great options for those who love to entertain. Kids and teens can save their allowance, walk dogs, or coordinate a school talent show or bake sale. Those who really want to rise to the challenge can pledge to give up Facebook or Twitter for 100 days, stop smoking, or shave their heads in exchange for donations from family and friends! Or simply put a collection jar next to the office coffee pot, ask 10 people for $10, or to write a check themselves.
The funds raised through each activity or donation will help BCRC provide local women affected by breast cancer with support groups, professional counseling, peer support, wigs and prostheses, mind/body wellness classes, financial assistance, retreats, lectures and teleconferences, and more.
"Almost everyone knows someone who has had breast cancer - a mother, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother, daughter, friend, co-worker or neighbor," says Kara Stephenson, BCRC's Director. "But many of these women will have gone through the breast cancer experience without the crucial emotional and physical support that is the cornerstone of our mission. We want to make sure that no one has to go through breast cancer without information or support, but we need help to make that happen." The 100 Women, 100 Ways Challenge offers everyone the opportunity to make a very big difference by doing something small, and all those small contributions will add up to something extraordinary!
Individuals, schools, churches, clubs, teams, moms' groups, scout troops, corporations, small businesses, community groups, and industry associations are all invited to participate in the challenge. Although the project is titled 100 Women - girls, boys, and men of all ages are encouraged to take action.
"The 100 Women, 100 Ways, 100 Days Challenge is a celebration of community, energy, and the incredible spirit of goodness we all have inside us," says breast cancer survivor Betsy Bell, founder of Head2Hope, which began making head scarves for breast cancer patients and has grown into a full line of wraps, scarves, neck warmers, headbands and soothing blankets. Betsy has participated in the challenge for the past 2 years, exceeding the $100 goal both times. She will be participating in the challenge again in 2012, and encourages everyone to get involved and do their own project to help meet the challenge goal. Ms. Bell says, "I'm excited to be part of the 100 Women Challenge again this year, because I believe in what Breast Cancer Resource Center at the YWCA Princeton does. I have benefited from their services personally. Every $100 the challenge raises will truly make a difference in the life of someone coping with breast cancer. "
