Centro Campesino Farmworker Center Groundbreaking For Education Center Expansion
Centro Campesino Farmworker Center (CCFC), a Chartered Member of the NeighborWorks® America network is pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony, this Saturday, June 14, 2014, 10:00 a.m. for the expansion of The Education Center which has served the South Florida community for over 20 years.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) June 14, 2014 - The addition will include two new classrooms, a computer lab with 30 work stations, an office, restrooms, and an inside physical fitness area. The enhancements to the new space will increase capacity by allowing the Center to accommodate 60 more children for after school and summer camp. This expansion will also provide CCFC with two classrooms for use on evenings and weekends throughout the year for community education.
The renovations to the (CCFC) Education Center, are made possible by a General Obligation Bond grant from Miami-Dade County for $226, 500. Branch Bank & Trust (BB&T) also helped jumpstart the project by designating it a Lighthouse Project, which gave immediate financial support and volunteers to help clear years of stored equipment and material to ready the site for demolition. Executive Director Diane Cantor says, "People talk about rolling up their sleeves, but the BB&T senior managers who spent four days with us, rolled out several large dumpsters of debris-working in non-air-conditioned storage space. Just like us, they could envision the new Center to come."
CCFC will break ground on the Expansion at the site of its current facility with special guests including Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace. He will be joined by Don Phoenix, Regional Vice President, Southern Region, NeighborWorks America from Atlanta and local representatives of BB&T and TotalBank which is sponsoring the workshops offered immediately following the groundbreaking. The CCFC Board, friends and supporters will also be in place to lift the first shovels.
The ceremony marks the beginning of the path to homeownership for 70 prospective first-time homebuyers who will also be attending the morning ceremony before an all-day HUD-approved "Essentials for First-time Homebuyers" course, which prepares them for their journey to homeownership. Upon completion, each prospective homebuyer will receive a certificate enabling them to apply for down payment assistant programs as well as subsidized mortgages through Miami-Dade County.
The groundbreaking is part of the larger celebration of National NeighborWorks Week, which takes place from June 7 - 15 in 44 states and Puerto Rico; celebrating our collective mission throughout the country to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. Centro Campesino Farmworker Center Centro is part of the NeighborWorks Network Florida Collaborative, one of ten Florida based NW Network Organizations collaborating during NNW providing homebuyer education, homeowner information and housing related services to Florida residents.
The new Education Center Expansion is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2014.
