Centrepoint Supports Museumsnacht in Basel
Centrepoint (www.centrepoint.ch), the community-focused volunteer organization for expatriates of all nationalities and Swiss living in the Basel region, is delighted to announce its participation in Museumsnacht.
- (1888PressRelease) January 12, 2012 - Museumsnacht is an annual cultural event organized together by multiple museums and cultural institutions in Basel during which the establishments remain open late into the night. Marketed together, the event seeks to introduce new individuals to the cultural institutions. A common entrance pass allows visitors to access all exhibits, as well as to access the public transportation required to reach these various locations.
"During Museumsnacht, Centrepoint will be staying open later to give visitors a chance to see more about what we do and meet our volunteers," explained Sydne Saccone from Centrepoint's Public Relations team. "We have something for everyone, whether they want to pursue a particular interest, improve their language skills, make and meet friends, or simply find out more about Basel and Switzerland."
Interestingly, just next to Centrepoint, in the historic Lohnhof, there is on view the Switzerland's biggest collection of musical instruments. Opened since November 2000, the new Music Museum replaces the former Collection of Musical Instruments that had been on display almost unchanged since 1957. Meanwhile the collection had more than doubled in size. Among the highlights are some of the famous centres of instrument manufacture, instruments with close links to Basel, and brass instruments in general.
The Music Museum is one of the four sections (buildings) that compose the Basel Historical Museum (Historisches Museum Basel), the other 3 sections are the Barfüsserkirche, Haus zum Kirschgarten and the Coach and Carriage Museum, the former two can be found in Basel while the latter lies slightly outside Basel, in the neighbouring town of Münchenstein. Opened in 1894, the Basel Historical Museum is one of the largest and most important museums of its kind in Switzerland, and a heritage site of national significance.
