Central Texas College Invests In The Future Of Nursing Education With Ems Simulation Technology
Education Management Solutions' simulation technology helps Central Texas College provide state-of-the-art nursing education in Killeen, Texas.
- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2011 - With the start of the spring 2011 semester, Central Texas College (CTC) opened the doors to its new nursing facility equipped with Education Management Solutions (EMS) simulation technology. The more than 86,000-square-foot, two-story structure houses cutting-edge equipment, classroom and lab space, and a variety of simulated emergency and hospital space to provide students a unique learning experience.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony for CTC's nursing building in July 2009, the college has blossomed into a shiny new landmark on the horizon of nursing education. Over $1.3 million was invested on technology, equipment, and furniture to provide students with the most authentic medical experiences. EMS' innovative technology will help CTC modernize its education and curriculum by digitizing and automating scoring, scheduling, and inventory management. According to Simulation Coordinator, Susan Ramnarine-Singh , "We purchased and installed a state-of-the-art simulation management and audio-video system from EMS to more efficiently manage the center, effectively evaluate learner performance, and digitally document simulated events."
Each room is set up to mimic an actual hospital setting to acclimate students to their future working environment. Nine hospital simulation labs were constructed to include two (two-bed) intensive care units, two (six-bed) medical/surgical wards, one (six-bed) emergency room, one (four-bed) pediatric ward, one operating room, one long term care unit, and one (two bed and two newborn warmer) ward. In addition, there is a static room, isolation room, and a simulated ambulance built into one of the classrooms for training purposes.
