  • (1888PressRelease) March 26, 2010 - Roland White, Fiddler from Bend Oregon and member of the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers, (OOTFA), District # 3 placed First in the Senior Division at the Oregon State Championship Old Time Fiddle Contest held the second weekend in March this year in Salem Oregon.

Roland has been playing fiddle for over 30 years and is a well known Central Oregon fiddle teacher and fiddle player for weddings, parties and community events. He recently launched his web site Fiddlplay to promote fiddle music and fiddle teaching in Central Oregon.

The Oregon Old Time Fiddlers state association holds the annual Championship Old Time Fiddle Contest at Chemeketa Community College in Salem where fiddlers compete for the State championship divisions from Pee Wee's to Senior Senior's. The Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association is Certified with the National Oldtime Fiddle Contest and Festival held every June in Weiser Idaho and winners of the State Contest divisions are automatically entered into the National Fiddle Contest and are featured for one year in the National Fiddlers Hall of Fame.

Roland first experienced fiddle music in 1976, by the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers at a small country grange hall in Mt. Hood Oregon. He was instantly captivated by the catchy upbeat melodies known as fiddle tunes. Since that time Roland has studied and learned hundreds of fiddle tunes including American, Irish, Celtic, and other music traditions. District # 3 in Central Oregon has a monthly fiddle jam free to the public or by donation at the Pine Mountain Grange Hall in Bend on the first Sunday of each month.

Every weekend somewhere in Oregon, local fiddlers gather in grange halls, senior centers, or where ever they can play music together. The public is invited to come to listen to the fiddle music and the OOTFA remains true to their mission statement which is:

"To perpetuate and promote Old Time Fiddling and Old Time music. To encourage everyone, especially young people, to play the fiddle and appreciate Old Time Fiddling and Old Time music. To provide regular times and places to meet to play this kind of music".

The monthly Fiddle jam is held on the fist Sunday of each month at the Pine Mountain Grange Hall 63214 NE Boyd Acres Road, Bend Oregon. The event is free or by donation from 1 PM to 4 PM. Contact info:Roland White 541-647-4789
