Central Health Physiotherapy Launches New Osteoporosis Service
Central Health Physiotherapy, one of the largest and most respected physiotherapy companies in the UK, have launched a new private, physiotherapy-led service for the management of osteoporosis and osteoporosis related fractures at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, in St John's Wood.
- (1888PressRelease) January 19, 2013 - London, United Kingdom - Central Health Physiotherapy's osteoporosis services will involve assessing those at risk of developing this condition, and implementing a treatment plan accordingly, utilising drug therapy, exercise prescription, and dietary and lifestyle advice based on each client's individual needs.
Physical activity and strengthening exercise have been shown to be beneficial for improving bone density, and therefore mechanical bone strength amongst those at risk of developing osteoporosis, whilst physiotherapy has also been shown to be effective for improving pain, function and quality of life for individuals with minimal trauma, osteoporosis-related vertebral (spinal) fractures.
Chris Pinches, Outpatient Physiotherapy Manager at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, commented: "In the UK, 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 years of age will suffer from an osteoporosis-related fracture.
"We have therefore developed this service because we see a lot of orthopaedic patients at the hospital, as well as those with other medical problems that may put them at risk of developing osteoporosis such as those taking steroids or certain cancer medications".
"Osteoporotic fractures can have serious consequences and greatly reduce quality of life, but there are a lot of things that can be done to either prevent or limit the development of osteoporosis or to reduce the risk of osteoporotic fractures.
"By raising awareness of both the potential problem and the best ways to manage it, we hope to help people to avoid the serious problems that can develop. Early diagnosis and management is key and we aim to provide this with our new service."
