Center for Autism and Related Disorders Hosts New York Workshops to Bring Families Up to Date on Pending State Autism Insurance Bills
The Center for Autism and Related Disorders will hold free workshops on June 15 and 16, 2011, giving parents an opportunity to learn about New York's pending autism insurance reform bills that could mandate coverage for behavioral therapy.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) May 19, 2011 - The Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. (CARD), the world's largest autism organization effectively treating children with state of the art therapy, will host an Autism Treatment Insurance Workshop for parents of children with autism. The free workshop will be offered June 15 - 16, 2011 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at 1890 Palmer Ave., Suite 404 in Larchmont, New York. The workshop will give parents of children with autism up-to-date information on insurance coverage for behavioral therapy, answers on what insurance companies will and will not cover as well as effective strategies to maximize insurance benefits.
"Autism insurance reform laws have been enacted by 26 states," says CARD New York Managing Supervisor Frank Lo Curto, MS. "However, New York is currently one of 12 states with pending insurance reform bills," says Lo Curto. "Bills S4005 and A6305 would potentially help thousands of families here in New York by requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders. This workshop will prepare parents for the next phase, adds Lo Curto."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism in America, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder that is marked by the presence of impaired social interaction and communication in addition to a restricted repertoire of activities and interests.. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide are affected by autism.
