  • (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2011 - Sherway Gardens (HWY 427 & QEW) is celebrating their 40th anniversary with a special Gallery in the Garden Retrospective Exhibit which illustrates, through photos and archival newspaper clippings, the history of Sherway Gardens since its grand opening in 1971. It will be on display until Saturday, February 26 in the corridor at door 3. For more information call 416-621-1070 or visit www.sherwaygardens.ca

Exhibit photo panels document how Sherway Gardens has changed over the years with the addition of the 1987 Holt Renfrew wing, and the Brettons wing (now the Sporting Life wing) in 1989. At the time of the Bretton's wing addition, the original picnic court called Gourmet Fair, was moved to its current location on a second level. Its signature Teflon-coated fibreglass tented roof structure earned a Canadian Consulting Engineering award of merit for its design and is still a widely recognized landmark on the Etobicoke skyline.

    SHERWAY GARDENS - STYLE FOREVER

Fashion and lifestyle are synonymous with Sherway Gardens. Sherway's commitment to style and fashion has evolved with the times, trends and tastes of fashion-conscious clients and retailers.

This exhibit features samples of award-winning advertising campaigns and fashion ads from the last four decades. Sherway Gardens continues to commit to its fashion brand with industry icons such as Holt Renfrew, Michael Kors, Coach, Harry Rosen and relative new-comers to the Canadian market such as Scotch & Soda, Hollister & Abercrombie & Fitch.

In 2011, Sherway Gardens' unfailing commitment to quality, style and selection continues with the addition of exciting new retailers such as Juicy Couture (April), Victoria's Secret (May), Pink by Victoria's Secret (May), Kiehl's (June), Lego (Spring), Le Creuset (Spring) and Stuart Weitzman (Spring).

    INNOVATIVE INITIATIVES

The innovative BREATHE GREEN initiative was introduced at Sherway in July 2007. This landmark first step was implemented to provide a cleaner, healthier environment for both customers and employees. In keeping with the commitment to providing a "best in class" shopping experience, which includes a clean and safe environment, smoking is prohibited anywhere on Sherway Gardens' property.

    SHERWAY GARDENS SUPPORTS LOCAL CHARITIES

From its earliest days, Sherway embraced being part of the local community by hosting many fundraisers and by providing a Community Booth for local non-profit groups to promote and facilitate their own fundraising efforts.

Over the years, Sherway is proud to have been partners with The Salvation Army, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, The Red Door Family Shelter, Women's Habitat, Dorothy Ley Hospice, The Trillium Health Centre, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Arts Etobicoke, The Heart & Stroke Association, The Canadian Cancer Society, Sleeping Children Around the World and many, many more charitable and non-profit groups and organizations.

    STAR GAZING AT SHERWAY

Sherway Gardens has welcomed many well-known, talented celebrities and performers over the years, including Tom Jones, Michael Bolton, Tony Bennett, Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian to name a few. In addition, Burton Cummings, Ricky Martin and Canadian Idol Kalan Porter have performed in Sherway Square, and Jann Arden, Matt Dusk and Shay have appeared at charity fundraisers at Sherway Gardens.

Sherway has also been a sought after location for many movie shoots, including Mean Girls with Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams & Amanda Seyfried, as well as the Michael Douglas/Keifer Sutherland major film The Sentinel.
