CEE Program Alumni Receive Prestigious Scholarships
Allen Lin has received The Gates Scholarship and Bhav Jain has received the Truman Scholarship.
- (1888PressRelease) July 12, 2022 - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is pleased to announce that recent program alumni have received prestigious scholarships. Allen Lin, a 2021 alumnus of CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI), has received The Gates Scholarship, and Bhav Jain, a 2018 alumnus of the Center’s USA Biolympiad (USABO), has received the Truman Scholarship.

Allen Lin is a student at the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is a mathematics tutor, the co-president of chess club and a member of math club. the 2021 RSI he worked with MIT faculty on an original math research project about circular symmetrization. He plans to major in mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
As a recipient of The Gates Scholarship, Allen will receive funding for college that covers the full cost of attendance not already covered by other financial aid. Launched in 2017, and through it, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation continues its long-standing commitment helping outstanding minority students from low-income backgrounds realize their maximum potential.
Bhav Jain is a senior at MIT majoring in brain and cognitive sciences management. He is interested in global health care delivery and transforming clinical care as a future physician-policymaker. His research spans oncology delivery, health disparities, and health systems transformation, and has been published in several outlets. He is President and Co-Founder of The Connected Foundation, which forges intergenerational connections between youth and seniors. He competed in the 2018 USABO National Finals, earning a bronze medal. He graduated from Franklin Regional Senior High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.
As a Truman Scholar, Bhav will receive up to $30,000 toward graduate studies in the United States, as well as access to development programs such as the Truman Scholars Leadership Week, the Summer Institute, and other Truman Fellows events. Established by Congress in 1975 as a living memorial to President Harry S. Truman and a national monument to public service, the Truman Scholarship carries the legacy of our 33rd president by supporting and inspiring the next generation of public service leaders.

About Research Science Institute
CEE’s RSI is a summer science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program collaboratively sponsored with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that combines on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research. Students conduct original, cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals, and corporate research facilities. Students make oral and written presentations based on their research during the last week of the program. RSI is offered at no cost to all students competitively selected to attend. About the USA Biolympiad
As the premiere biology education and testing program for high school students in the United States, the USA Biolympiad (USABO) enriches the life science education of nearly 11,000 talented students annually. USABO’s mission concentrates on stimulating young scholars’ intellectual curiosity and developing their critical thinking in laboratory skills and biological reasoning to propel them to careers of excellence and leadership in science and technology.
