- (1888PressRelease) September 04, 2012 - BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA - A Report from Your Boca Raton Car Accident Lawyer. Unfortunately, this finding is no surprise to your Boca Raton car accident lawyer.
The study reviewed over 34,000 car accident-related deaths in 2009 from the 50 most populous metropolitan areas in the U.S. The overall national death rates for motor vehicle collisions was 11.1 per 100,000 residents, as compared with 8.2 per 100,000 residents in the 50 metropolitan areas studied. This is consistent with findings that fatal motor car accidents happen more often in rural rather than urban areas.
Compared to these national rates, Florida cities had an even higher rate of motor vehicle fatalities. For instance:
● Jacksonville had a rate of 13.3 per 100,000 residents overall, and 25.4 per 100,000 residents for residents aged 15 - 24.
● Miami had a rate of 16.1 per 100,000 residents, and the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach saw a rate of 11.1 per 100,000 residents. That same area had a rate of 18.0 per 100,000 residents aged 15 - 24.
● Orlando's rate was 19.6 per 100,000 residents, 11.3 per 100,000 residents for the Orlando-Kississimmee area, and 17.6 per 100,000 for residents aged 15 - 24.
● Tampa's overall rate was 13.9 per 100,000 residents, 12.6 per 100,000 residents for Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, and 19.5 per 100,000 residents aged 15 - 24.
As these statistics show, the rates for Florida major metropolitan areas tend to be higher than the national average.
The study also found that 22% of individuals who died in motor vehicle accidents were between the ages of 15 and 24. In fact, motor vehicle collisions were the leading cause of death for that age group in 2009. The national rate for motor vehicle fatalities of persons aged 15 - 24 is 13.0 per 100,000 residents.
