Catholic Ministry Groups Collaborate to bring RENEW Theology on Tap to Young Adults attending World Youth Day 2011
National Catholic Young Adult Ministry Association (NCYAMA), United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, and RENEW International help expand the Church's outreach and mission by bringing Theology on Tap to Madrid for World Youth Day 2011.
- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) August 18, 2011 - English-speaking young adults will have their own Theology on Tap event at World Youth Day on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in Madrid, Spain.
This Theology on Tap event gives young adult pilgrims from the United States the opportunity to meet and network with other faithful peers. By gathering together in Madrid during World Youth Day, young adults will see that they are not alone in their journey and others are walking a similar path.
This event arose from the collaboration of the National Catholic Young Adult Ministry Association (NCYAMA), the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, and RENEW International. It promotes Pope Benedict's vision of a "new evangelization" by helping expand the Church's outreach and mission to young adults. These young adults are the face of Christ to their generation, and the Catholic Church in the United States needs the spirit of the pilgrims in Madrid to spread the Gospel upon their return.
RENEW Theology on Tap has become well-known as an innovative Catholic ministry for reaching out to young adults, inviting them to comfortable, relaxed settings to discover how faith can give sense to their everyday lives. Each Theology on Tap gathering features a speaker addressing a topic of faith relevant to young adult Catholics in their 20s and 30s, as well as time for conversation. This global expansion to World Youth Day is the first of its kind in Theology on Tap's history.
The guest speaker in Madrid will be Most Reverend J. Peter Sartain, Archbishop of Seattle, Washington. When appointed to Seattle in 2010, he became the youngest Archbishop in America. Archbishop Sartain has previously served as the Bishop of Joliet and the Bishop of Little Rock. Later in the evening, Christian music artists John Angotti and Curtis Stephan will lend their musical talents by performing live. The event will take place in the V.I.P. Lounge on the first floor of the Love & Life Pilgrim Center at Palacido de Deportes Stadium, located at Avenida de Felipe II s/n 28009 Madrid, beginning at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served.
Paul Jarzembowski, Executive Director of NCYAMA, states, "By hearing from Archbishop Sartain, we hope to inspire these young adults to take the excitement and learnings from World Youth Day back to their parishes, dioceses, and communities so that the Church in the United States may benefit from their experience. We also want to encourage them to be evangelizers of their peers who may have drifted away from the practice of the faith."
Sr. Pat Thomas, OP, Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry at RENEW International, remarked, "With World Youth Day bringing together so many young people, we are pleased to work with NCYAMA and the USCCB to find new ways to meet young adult Catholics where they are, and to help them connect faith to their everyday lives."
