Gloucester County Business Collects Plastic Bags for Homeless Project

Helping Those in Point Pleasant, New Jersey

(Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey - July 23, 2010) Castle Windows, a leader in providing top quality, custom-made windows, has also made it their mission to help those in need in the many areas they serve. During the holiday season, Castle Windows donated truckloads of toys to "Toys for Tots" in Mount Laurel and Easter baskets to less fortunate children in Trenton. The well-known home improvement company also donated windows, doors and talent to "Habitat for Humanity" in Gloucester County.

Now, they have done it again.

Castle Windows has donated over 700 plastic grocery bags to Connecting With Seniors who will turn them into sleeping mats for the homeless in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.

"We are proud to be on board with Connecting with Seniors and hope that more people will join in on helping create mats for the homeless," says Sue Updike of Castle Windows.

Shirley Galinski, president of Connecting with Seniors in Pt. Pleasant Beach, has organized a group of 15-28 seniors who meet weekly to crochet the bags into comfortable mats for those in need. When completed, the mats are about 6 feet in length and 3 feet in width and because the mats are made from plastic, they are water resilient and portable. As soon as the mats are created, the seniors go out and distribute them at the local tent city. Along with the mat, pillows and blankets are supplied as well so that the homeless can at least get a good night sleep.

It took Castle Window employees almost 5 weeks to collect over 700 bags. "We are always excited to partner with local businesses," says Galinsky, "We are happy that Castle employees are so generous with their plastic bags."

"This wonderful project fits right in with our ongoing green initiatives," said Castle Window President Christopher Cardillo. " We are delighted that something so simple as collecting plastic bags, can do so much for those who have so little."
